Thereās nothing quite like fall in Central Wisconsin ā and this week, I got to experience it at one of our areaās hidden gems: Doepke Park Recreational Area in Rib Mountain, Wisconsin.
At the end of October 2025, I spent an afternoon hiking the trails surrounded by brilliant fall colors ā deep reds, bright yellows, and that crisp, cool air that reminds you why this region is so special. The views of the Rib Mountain area were incredible, and the peaceful sounds of the woods made it the perfect place to unwind.
Doepke Park is just minutes from downtown Wausau, yet it feels like youāve escaped into pure Northwoods. Itās one of those places that makes you stop and think ā what a phenomenal place to call homeā¦ or to visit.
As the leaves fall and temperatures drop, this area starts gearing up for winter fun. Soon, the snowmakers will fire up, and Granite Peak Ski Area will become one of the Midwestās most popular ski destinations. But even if downhill skiing isnāt your thing, thereās something here for everyone.
For those who prefer flat ground over steep slopes, cross-country skiing around Rib Mountain and nearby trails is a local favorite. The Nine Mile Recreational Forest, just a short drive away, offers miles of well-groomed trails for both classic and skate skiing ā a true winter playground for outdoor enthusiasts.
Whether youāre looking to explore nature, buy a home, or just enjoy the beauty of Wisconsinās four seasons, the Rib Mountain and Wausau area truly have it all.
